From On the River
We've had printed images from the WLAV River Raft Race displayed for the public for about 2 weeks now, and it's been difficult to gather any one, detailed account (mostly because folks tend to erupt delightfully into non-comprehensible hysterics at the sight of drunken river race images) Occasionally, I could piece together some complete sentences such as,
"Remember that guy who mooned everyone?! He just climbed right up there on stage and... [laughs]" or,
"Bob Seger was there!" We heard that one a lot. One particular man recalled,
"No one knew who [Bob Seger] was then. He was playing, and I didn't really know who he was, but I thought, ' hey, he's pretty good...'"
Another who was still a kid during the Raft Race years stopped to talk for a bit. "Riverside Park was right in our backyard... We had to chase people out of our backyard who were peeing in there."
One woman stopped by our pod today for some shelter from the rain and told us about her cousin.
"My cousin was in the band. He fell off the bandstand and broke his arm"
One phrase that seems to have repeated itself in the last two weeks...
"It was a big party."
