From On the River
| |
The object I found for my outside-in project was a broken cassette tape player. I found it washed up on the east bank of the river near the Pearl Street Bridge. My first response to the object was to complete it.
I decided to create a cassette tape out of illustration board to fit perfectly into the player like real cassette tape. I referred to a photo of a cassette tape to draw in the fine details. I cut a long thin strip of black construction paper to create the loose tape part. On it, I wrote some adjectives used to describe the sounds that I heard on my derive along the river. The combination of real (constructed cassette tape) and imaginary (words written on tape) make this piece interesting.
