There are numerous cultural and art historical references that inform the notion of a mobile studio. One of the most interesting is by the 60's era London-based architecture collective http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/archigram. The http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/walking city was imagined in an environment that had greatly deteriorated. These living machines move around the city following convenience and resources. They are totally self-contained.
