When we held our 'share your raft race pictures with us' event, we had hoped for a better turn out - but we did however have one visitor! And he was more than willing to share. Rick reminisced of being 16, loading up the back of his truck with a bunch of friends and a keg, and driving to the raft race. He brought a newspaper page from the day after one of the races to share with us, as well as an original WLAV raft race sealed soda.
At one point he met Bob Seger there, who was still a rising star at the time - little did he know how famous his acquaintance would soon become. Not only did he have a pre-celebrity run in experience at the race, but also had a friend who broke his neck! He had gotten really wasted during the race and jumped off one of the short bridges. He was alright but had to wear a 'halo like splint' around his neck for a pretty long time.
