From On the River

Jump to: navigation, search

While at the library I looked at an excerpt on the Flood of 1904. A man in this article recounts that from the 1st of March to the 15th it rose from 2-13 feet. On the 24th it went up to over 11 ½ . “Well by midnight the next night the old Grand had shot up to 17 feet, having gained about two feet and half during the day.”

I also looked at a passage on some Historic facts of the Grand River.

• Indians called it Owashtonogh—“the far away waters.”

• The Grand River is the longest and most important river in the state of Michigan

• Comes from a spring fed lake near Jackson

• Travels over 270 miles

• Passes through 18 cities

• Formed over 13,000 years ago
