From On the River
"The Hypothetical Flood assignment" is inspired by the frequent flooding that occurs in Grand Rapids near the Grand River. The rise of water levels is a result of the increasing amounts of water from melted snow. The flood of 1904, in particular, was the most devastating flood of Grand Rapids. A harsh winter raised the water levels 19.5 feet above average. Over 2,500 houses, more than one half the populated sector of the west side, was underwater. This assignment questions what would happen if the Grand River were to flood to that extreme again today.
How to make a page for a Hypothetical_Flood:
Make a separate page for each image. Click the link above. It will ask you to name the page you want to create. Type in a very brief description of the spot where your image is taken (it's only one object per page.) Ex. “Flood North of the Gillett Bridge”. After typing in a name, it will bring you to an edit content page where you can upload a main photo for your experience, type a description of the view and location, and upload more images. To mark a map location, type in "Grand Rapids" and search for your area. Changing the view to 'satellite' also helps to see landmarks that the other map does not show.
