This page is an index of related, but separate Studio Assignments; Outside-In, and Inside-Out. These assignments react to the typical separation of Art from Everyday Life. We are referring to "In" as the isolated space of the art in the studio and gallery, and "Out" is out in the open of Everyday Life.

Outside-In

Take an aimless walk or Dérive. Notice objects or items that trigger your curiosity. Along the way pick up one such object and take it with you. (Make sure not to take anyone's property or somethings whose displacement would cause any harm or damage). Take the object from outside in to the studio (or any workspace) and work from it to make something else; drawing, object, add something, remove something . . . . Take a digital image of the resulting product. The ending result might be a new object, written idea, or image and mustn’t be restricted to any certain medium. Many of the projects become intuitively based, and relate to what was found in unexpected ways.

Inside-Out

Locate a particular space and make note of it's features and details. In the Studio (or any workspace) make something that is meant to subtly be situated i this space. Take your product from Inside out and put it in the place. Take some digital images of the sample.

How to make a page for an Inside-Out or Outside-In project:

You should make a separate page for each project. Click on the link that says “Add Content” under the ‘contribute’ category in the right hand column. It will ask you to name the page you want to create. Type in a very brief description of your project beginning with either "Outside-In" or "Inside-Out". Ex. “Outside-In Carved Driftwood Stick” After typing in a name, it will bring you to an edit content page where you can upload a main photo for you your product, type a description of the item and any related ideas or content. You can upload more images and/or videos. To mark a map location type in "Grand Rapids" and search for your area. Changing the view to 'satellite' also helps to see landmarks that the other map does not show.
