From On the River
During our day in the library on Tuesday October 6th I viewed many interesting images and captions within the book titled, "Pictoral History of Grand Rapids". The book was actually written by a Grand Valley State University history professor. The book was split up into categories and covered a wide range of time within each category. The caption to each image was descriptive about past areas and how they use to look in addition to what it is "today".
I also looked up the house I am currently renting downtown and saw it on a Sanborn Map. The Sanborn map showed there use to be a detached garage in the back of it, however it is no longer there. I then looked up who lived in the house in 1918. I found out it was Georgiana E Hall. I would like to find out a little more about her and possibly her neighbors. I often find myself curious about who use to live in these houses and what were there lives like and their professions. Did they have children? How many? Every time I walk out my front door I feel as if I am living in a history book but I don't know the stories.
I realized Grand Rapids is rich with history and I am curious about the people who resided in "historic" Grand Rapids.
