From On the River

Object: Tree Bark

For my dérive, I found a piece of tree bark wedged between two rocks along the riverside, and immediately my thoughts went to a dug out canoe. This made me think of a society of hunters and gatherers. For my inside out-outside in experiment, I decided to do a gathering of my own to bring back to my "dug out canoe."

The following is a list of my gathered objects:
-Clump of dead grass
-Pine needle cluster
-Dirt clump
-27 berries
-7 twigs
-6 pieces of straw
-6 yellow leaves
-Feather
-8 dried purple flowers
-2 rocks

The last time I saw my "canoe," all that was left was the piece of bark and the feather. Image:CIMG5754.jpg
Overall, I was excited with how the project turned out. I did what I set out to do, with setting the "canoe" down the river with my gathered objects. I like that I set it in the river underneath the Gillette Bridge, since that is the base for our river experiments. However, my canoe did not get very far. It would have been interesting to see how the canoe fared going over the small waterfalls.

The following are the approximate coordinates of my canoe's launch.
