From On the River
| |
Throughout my Derive, I spent a lot of time along the river; picking up miscellaneous unsanitary objects and toting them around, other objects I dropped and regretted even touching, others still I didn't dare disturb. Most all of the things I came across (as gross as they were) reflected little stories or daily life - empty sandwich bags, receipts, fishing line - just beat up and honest pieces of trash. After interacting so closely with these objects, I adventured into the city, walking along the pristine and modern Amway and DeVos premises. I was prepared for a contrast, but not such a stark one. These locations that are literally feet away (the river bank vs. Amway and DeVos) thrive off of completely different energies.
For my outside-in project I took a fishing lure and line which I found along the river and wrapped it around/into a clear clean margarita glass. Both objects deal with and imply a use for liquid, but in completely different contexts, kind of like the two neighboring locations. I thought it would be interesting to (literally) intertwine the two together.
