From On the River

This was found along the Grand River during the river clean-up that took place on September 19, 2009. This was the last thing I found that I felt worth taking a picture of. To clarify, this is a picture of a Valentine candy heart with the words "I <3 USA" on it.
Along with the river clean-up, there was also a fundraiser for diabetes occurring, and these hearts were passed out there. I found the words almost ironic. Since it was the last leg of clean-up, I was both disgusted as to how much garbage we found and also happy that people were taking time to clean it up.
My first reaction to this was, "If you loved the USA so much, I wouldn't have to clean up your garbage." I hope the clean-up was an eye-opener for the peopl of Grand Rapids that their city should be taken better care of.
